Heidi Lessick is a native Oregonian currently living in Oregon City with her husband, Chris, and two children. Motivated by health issues at ‘thirty-something’- about seven years ago Heidi began blogging about the topic of nutrition in an effort to educate herself (and others) about how proper nutrition is really our best medicine. Since starting the blog, Heidi partnered with Brenda Thrasher in 2010 to start an Oregon City Foodie group called Food For Life. This group is a support group for the community for those interested in creating healthier lives primarily through nutrition.  The group is made up of consumers, farmers, natural health care professionals, etc. who want to learn from each other in a supportive environment. Heidi’s passion in life has become spreading the word about good nutrition.

Some nutritional things Heidi does on a regular basis:~ Follows the teachings of the Weston A. Price Foundation and the Nourishing Traditions style of cooking/ eating (By Sally Fallon), brews kombucha, makes cream cheese, ice cream, cultures kefir, buttermilk, yogurt, ferments vegetables, sprouts seeds, gardens, creates gluten free baked and raw treats (grinds her grain and soaks before making breads for maximum nutrition), Sells goods she makes (in her certified kitchen!) at the Oregon City Farmer’s Market under her company name of Nature’s Sweetie.   Heidi also makes laundry soap, toothpaste and deodorant. Heidi enjoys supporting her local farmers and purchases unpasteurized milk, grass fed beef, pastured chickens, vegetables, lamb and eggs all from local folks! Many of these are regulars at Food For Life meetings.

Heidi successfully completed the OSU Extention Class in June 2013 for fermenting and canning and is certified ‘legal’ to make and sell fermented foods/ sauerkraut to the public.
